Why a consortium?
Because we require funding and feedback to sustain the more sophisticated and ambitious development programme which we feel the software, and its dedicated users deserve.
We are proud of our current software product 3D GeoModeller version 1.2 which will continue to meet the demanding and broad requirements of geologists and geophysicists around the world. However, the rate of commercial uptake of GeoModeller is at levels sufficient only to sustain the provision of updates, support and maintenance, but not our more innovative development costs.
What is the GeoModeller Basins Consortium vision?
Our vision for user workflow is for efficient importing and manipulation of all manner of geological and geophysical data sets into one workspace, and hence rapid creation of a 3D geology model framework.
Many of the required functions are already in place in GeoModeller v1.2. However, the more innovative developments planned as part of the Basins Consortium will provide:
- More seamless set-up
- Improved support for basin geology
- A superior Inversion Module within the graphical user interface
For more details: Ask us for our preliminary work plan document
How long will the development take?
The 3D GeoModeller Basins Consortium officially begins on 1st July 2007 and will operate for 24 months.
How can we monitor Intrepid's progress?
Brief quarterly reports will summarize our progress within the overall development schedule, and highlight the next development items scheduled.
Even better: our progress can be measured by users frequently downloading the latest software build from our downloads page, and frequent use of the software on real data sets.
We will conduct two user group meetings during the life of the Consortium. These will be:
- First week in December 2007 (Melbourne)
- Last week in November 2008 (location to be announced)
How should we provide feedback to the Intrepid team?
Users can communicate with Intrepid Geophysics (and other consortium members) using:
Members are always welcome to visit Intrepid Geophysics in Melbourne (See: Who should we contact?) and review development progress. Intrepid staff may also be able to visit members in their offices, from time to time.
What is the cost of membership?
The all-inclusive membership fee for new and renewing members of the 3D GeoModeller Basins Consortium is AUD $39,000.
What's included in the membership offer?
- A single, perpetual, fully-featured GeoModeller Licence
- Upgrades, support and maintenance (for 2 years)
- Staff Training: 2 days "3D GeoModeller"
- Opportunities to influence software development planning
